FAQ
Why are my candle tops bumpy tops after burning?
After you burn your candle, you may notice that the top of your candle is looking rough & bumpy. This is caused by the wax in the melt pool cooling and solidifying at an inconsistent rate. This is a perfectly normal characteristic of soy wax & it will not affect the performance of your candle.
Why does my wax look frosty?
Frosting is a when a white crystalline layer forms on the surface and around the sides of your candle, this occurs when the wax is trying to return to its natural state. This does not affect the performance of your candle,
Why is my candle tunnelling?
Candle tunnelling is the phenomenon of a lit candle melting through the centre, without melting all of the surrounding wax, leaving a ledge of solid wax around the edge of the container. If you don’t allow the candles melt pool to spread to the edge of your vessel, it will increase the likelihood of tunnelling. Candle wax has memory, which means your candle remembers where it has burnt up to on its first burn and will only ever burn up to that point when it was last extinguished.
Never fear! Most of the time this can be fixed with household items.
Aluminium foil – Wrap a piece of aluminium foil around the edges and simply let your candle burn. Make sure the foil hangs over the built-up wax areas but leave an opening in the centre so the wick can still burn properly. After a couple of hours, the wax should melt and even out the surface.
Hair dryer / heat gun – If the tunnelling is mild, try using a blow dryer to melt the top layer of wax. It will become smoother and more level as it cools, allowing you to start over without the tunnelling. Alternatively if you have a heat gun, this will also work.
